Universidad Carlos III de Madrid proposed to Grupo Banco de Santander to expand their cooperation, in the promotion of research excellence, creating and maintaining the Permanent Chairs of Excellence. This common interest was evidenced by signing the new cooperation agreement “Cátedras de Excelencia Universidad Carlos III de Madrid - Grupo Banco Santander” for the period 2011-2014

These Chairs are aimed at funding the recruitment of prestigious professors, permanent and full-time. Attracting talent is one of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid strategic advancement lines that intend to encourage incorporation of internationally renowned professors in all disciplines.

On October 10, 2012 the sixth call of these new Chairs has been launched and it will be opened until November 15, 2012. The applications received will be evaluated by the merits of the candidates by a committee that will be composed by senior researchers from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and from other relevant and prestigious institutions.

In addition, the Assessment Committee Chairs of Excellence will evaluate every three years the results obtained by the Department based on a report of the Chair activity conducted by an International Commission composed of renowned professors.
